The crystal structures of hexamethylenediammonium bis(beta-phenylacryl
ate) dihydrate, C6H18N22+.2C(9)H(7)O(2)(-).2H(2)O, (I), and hexamethyl
enediammonium phenylene-1,4-diacrylate monohydrate, C6H18N22+ .C12H8O4
2-.H2O, (II), have been studied. In (I) the anions related by (1) over
bar symmetry overlap each other, but the distance between the C=C dou
ble bonds, 5.165 (3) Angstrom, is too long for photodimerization to oc
cur. In (II) the anions and cations are stacked alternately, so no sho
rt contact is observed between the C=C double bonds of the anions.
