Abstract
An accurate head positioning system uses a magnetoresistive bead to ge nerate a servo signal from radially magnetised servo patterns on a rig id disk. The servo patterns are written by a thin film transverse writ e head and occupies about 6.8% of data area for submicron track servo. Track following on 0.7 mu m tracks has been demonstrated using the ne w servo method on longitudinal rigid disks.
