A single rising linear ramp is used as a theoretical representation of
the profile of !he magnetic field at the boundary of a single boundar
y eddy-current separator. The theory for small conducting particles mo
ving through such a field is developed so that, the particle trajectori
es through the separation zone can be determined. Using the trajectori
es, which in this case are not dependent upon particle shape, the reco
very of conductors at various fields Is predicted and tile predictions
are shown to compare Cell with experiment. The theory is then used to
explore the small particle limit of this type of electromagnetic sepa
ration.
