This paper describes a fundamental study of noise reduction transforme
rs with a filter function for electrical surge noise. Three kinds of p
rototype noise reduction transformer are proposed. The noise attenuati
on mechanism are discussed by experiments and by circuit analysis usin
g spice. This is useful to determine a method for the optimum design o
f the noise reduction transformer. The main results are as follows: (1
) The noise attenuation of the prototype transformer is above -15 dB.
(2) The leakage inductance and the stray capacitance are dominant fact
ors to increase the noise attenuation.
