Abstract
Sm-3(Fe-0.933, Ti-0.067)(29) and its nitrided compound crystallize in the Nd-3(Fe, Ti)(29) type structure. Both of these compounds exhibit f erromagnetic ordering with Curie temperatures of 486 and 750 K, respec tively. The room temperature saturation magnetization is 119 Am-2/kg f or the parent compound and 145 Am-2/kg for the nitride. The Sm-3(Fe-0. 933, Ti-0.067) compound exhibits a planar anisotropy, whereas the nitr ide has a uniaxial anisotropy, with the easy magnetization direction a long the [001] direction. The anisotropy field B-a is 12 T at room tem perature and 25 T at 4.2 K.
