Nl. Sukhov et Bg. Ershov, PULSED RADIOLYSIS STUDY OF FORMATION OF THE DISPERSE PHASE OF AGCL INAQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS, High energy chemistry, 25(4), 1991, pp. 269-272
The formation of the disperse phase of AgCl in aqueous solutions conta
ining organochlorine compounds as additives was studied by pulsed radi
olysis. It was shown that attenuation of light is only due to scatteri
ng on colloidal particles of (AgCl)m. The Rayleigh law (D approximatel
y lambda-n) is satisfied for the optical spectra. The values of n decr
ease from 4 to 3 with an increase in D, which indicates an increase in
the average particle size from less-than-or-equal-to 50 to approximat
ely 140 nm. The composition of the solution (its ionic strength in par
ticular) significantly affects the formation and stability of the disp
erse phase.
