Abstract
The mechanism of radiochemical oxidation of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-4,4' -diaminodiphenylmethane phenylmethane (TMDH) in solid solutions of pol yvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethyl methacrylate (PMMA) in the presenc e and absence of an electron acceptor, CBr4, was investigated by pulse d radiolysis. The absorption spectra were recorded and the short-lived products of radiolysis of TMDH were identified. The radiochemical yie lds were determined and the rate constants of formation of a stable co lored product of radiolysis, Michler's Hydrol, were calculated. The ra te constants for the PVC-TMDH-CBr4 and PMMA-TMDH-CBr4 systems were res pectively equal to 240 +/- 25 and 20 +/- 3 sec-1.
