In April 1991 the new oceanographic research vessel L'Atalante achieve
d her first geosciences cruise, using her new multibeam sounder EM 12
DUAL of SIMRAD. This tool enables to obtain all along the ships' route
a strip of bathymetric map of the marine floor, the width of which on
e can reach 7 times the water depth under the ship. All the periphery
of Corsica and the Ligure gulf have been mapped in 13 days. The morpho
bathymetric and structural characteristics of the Corsican margins are
presented here: canyons' shape, erosional features, sedimentary deep-
sea fans.
