A survey in the continental Miocene deposits of North Vietnam led to t
he discovery of two vertebrate sites: 1) At Nazuong (Province de Langs
on), some remains of a small crocodilian, 2) at Hangmon (Province Sonl
a), a more important site with several mammal species: a Hystricidae,
a very big carnivora Amphicyon cf. giganteus, three rhinocerotids, amo
ng which Protaceratherium cf. minutum, and the suid Hyotherium cf. soe
mmeringi. A Lower Miocene age is proposed.
