Abstract
The viral proteins p60, p45, p42, p40, p35, p34, p28, and p23 were pur ified from the plasma membrane fraction of BHK-21 cells infected with vaccinia virus strain-WR, Using immunoaffinity chromatography, prepara tive gel electrophoresis with passive elution. The immunological prope rties of these proteins were studied with specific antisera. The accum ulation of viral antigens in infected cells was studied: p60, p45, and p42 were late proteins, and proteins p34, p35, and p23 were early-lat e proteins. Immunochemical analysis was used to identify polypeptide p recursors synthesized by translation of virus-specific mRNA in a cell- free protein-synthesizing system.
