The products of the reaction of gamma-Al2O3 with SO3 were prepared in
a static system over the 25-450-degrees-C range. It was shown by a com
bination of methods (chemical analysis, Al-27 NMR, and x-ray diffracti
on) that on the absorption of SO3, a part of the oxide is amorphized a
nd x-ray amorphous products are formed, in the composition of which Al
(SO4)n fragments enter, with n = 1-6. The specific surface of the prod
ucts decreases with increasing sulfate content. The specific activity
in the isomerization of 1-butene is constant over a wide range of conc
entrations and equal to the activity of massive, crystalline sulfate r
oasted at 650-degrees-C.
