Abstract
The influence of the nature of R in organochlorine compounds R-Cl on t he rate of hydrogenolysis of the C-Cl bond was investigated under comp arable conditions on a Pd/C catalyst. The rate of hydrodechlorination of substituted chlorobenzenes was found to be correlated with the Hamm ett sigma-constant of the substituent. Electron donor substituents fac ilitate hydrogenolysis of the C-Cl bond.
