The paper discusses a neural modelling approach to synergy formation w
hich is based on the concept that the elastic properties of the human
musculature not only represent a significant low-level feature of the
motor system, but can also provide an organizing principle for the glo
bal computational architecture. The approach is based, on the one hand
, on 'equilibrium-point models' and, on the other, on the dynamics of
'relaxation networks'.
