The temperature dependence of Nd(III) absorption spectra in (Li-Cs)Cl
and (Cs-Na)Cl melts in the region of the 4G5/2 <-- 4I9/2 transition is
studied. Splittings of the ground 4I9/2 and excited 4G5/2 levels are
estimated. The intensities of hypersensitive (2G7/2.4G5/2 <-- 4I9/2) a
nd ordinary (4F7/2.4F5/2.4F3/2 <-- 4I9/2) transitions in oscillator st
rength units are compared for Nd(III) spectra in separate alkali metal
chloride melts at 830-degrees-C.
