Abstract
Irradiation of solutions and solid samples of U(IV)-phosphoric-acid co mplexes with light of energy corresponding to the 5f-6d-electronic tra nsition produces luminescence of U in the UV region with a lifetime < 10(-6) sec and quantum yield 0.015 +/- 0.003. Use of deuterated phosph oric acid increases the quantum yield by four times (0.060 +/- 0.005). The luminescence intensity is proportional to [U] from 4.10(-6) to 1. 10(-3) M (in logarithmic coordinates).
