Oxidation of hydrazinium nitrate (N2H5NO3) in the presence of its oxid
ation product hydrazoic acid (HN3) is examined. It is demonstrated tha
t concentrations of both N2H4 and HN3 are stabilized at a ratio N2H5NO
3:HN3 = 1:2. It is proposed that weakly dissociated compounds of N2H4
with HN3 are formed. The oxidation rate of N2H5NO3 by HNO3 in the pres
ence of Tc depends on the presence of HN3. Although HN3 and HNO3 do no
t react, a reaction is started by adding N2H5NO3. The data obtained in
dicate that HN3 does not reduce Tc(VII) whereas HN3 in N2H5NO3 solutio
ns prevents complete reduction of Tc.
