Abstract
Data are presented for the sorption of Np from HCl and HNO3 solutions onto 12X18N10T stainless steel. The decrease of sorption of Np ions fr om HNO3 as the acid concentration increases is explained by complexati on of Np by nitrate. The calculated stability constants of the Np-nitr ate complexes (NpNO3(3+) and NpO2NO3+) are 1.96 +/- 0.16 and 0.13 +/- 0.20, respectively.
