Intensity-controlled nonreciprocal coupler is proposed and studied ana
lytically and numerically. The structure consists of two planar wavegu
ides - the dielectric waveguide and the asymmetric magnetooptic wavegu
ide - coupled through a: nonlinear Ken-type medium. The operation of t
he device utilises the nonreciprocal phase shift for TM modes in magne
tooptic waveguide. The coupled mode equations are solved analytically
in terms of Jacobian elliptic function. The transmission characteristi
cs and the coupling efficiency for forward and backward direction prop
agation have been analysed depending on the input power. The transmiss
ion characteristics of the coupler are more sensitive to the input pow
er for this direction propagation for that the linear propagation mism
atch between the waveguides is larger Isolation of the device increase
s with increasing input power.
