We report the case of a 79-year old woman with a retroperitoneal lipos
arcoma. The condition was discovered because of the association, in a
woman of that age, of anaemia and persistent fever. The diagnosis was
suggested by computed tomography. Treatment was exclusively surgical.
Liposarcomas usually affect men in their sixth decade. Postoperative r
adiotherapy improves the quality of life but does not prolong survival
. Metastases are frequent, and death usually occurs in the year that f
ollows discovery.
