F. Roperto et al., LEGG-CALVE-PERTHES DISEASE IN DOGS - HISTOLOGICAL AND ULTRASTRUCTURALINVESTIGATIONS, The Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 28(2), 1992, pp. 156-162
The authors describe light, transmission, and scanning electron micros
copical features of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease (LCPD) in 14 dogs. Part
icular emphasis was placed on scanning electron microscopy which was h
elpful in documenting changes of the bony epiphysis and articular cart
ilage in LCPD. Furthermore, modalities through which alterations of th
e anatomical connections between subchondral spongeosa bone and articu
lar cartilage, mainly responsible for symptoms of the disease, are est
ablished and also were studied by scanning electron microscopy.
