Abstract
We report phase-resolved spectrophotometry of the 15m novalike variabl e WX Ari which covers the regions around H-beta and H-gamma with appro ximately 3 angstrom FWHM resolution and around H-alpha with approximat ely 9 angstrom resolution. A secure spectroscopic orbital period of 0. 13934(6) d ( = 3.34 h) was derived. The system has spectroscopic prope rties, such as variable emission-line profiles with phase-dependent ab sorption events, which suggest that it belongs to the subclass of SW S ex stars, although we have no evidence of eclipses.
