Abstract
Thermal decomposition of )-(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine)coppe r(II) complex in toluene, -dichlorophenoxo)(N,N-dimethylformamide)copp er(II) complex in N,N-dimethylformamide and bis(4-bromo-2,6-dichloroph enoxo)dimethyl sulfoxide)copper(II) complex in dimethyl sulfoxide was achieved at 70-degrees-C. 4-Bromo-2,6-dichlorophenol derivatives prefe r 1,4-addition to 1,2-addition, leading to highly linear polymers irre spective of the substituted ligands. The complexes were characterized by IR spectroscopy and C, H, N elemental analysis. The characterizatio n of the synthesized polymers were achieved by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and I R spectroscopy. The highest polymer yield was obtained from the decomp osition of o)(N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine)copper(II) complex.
