M. Nakata et al., SYNTHESIS OF ELECTRICALLY CONDUCTIVE POLYPYRROLE FILMS BY INTERPHASE OXIDATIVE POLYMERIZATION, Die Makromolekulare Chemie, 193(3), 1992, pp. 765-771
Polypyrrole (PPy) films were synthesized by interface polymerization r
eactions between aqueous solutions of FeCl3 and solutions of pyrrole m
onomer in organic solvents. The polymerizations were studied using var
ious organic solvents, and flexible and uniform PPy films were obtaine
d using benzene or toluene as solvents. It was found that polymerizati
on time and organic solvents strongly affect the thickness and conduct
ivity of the films, but the atomic composition of the PPy films was in
dependent of the reaction conditions. The mechanism of the film growth
at the interface is discussed on the basis of film properties and the
observation of the film surface using scanning electron microscopy.
