Abstract
Phosphonomethyl-substituted phenols are readily obtained from o-hydrox ymethylated phenols and trialkyl phosphites. The free acids, incorpora ted into phenol-formaldehyde resins, act as cation exchangers with rem arkable selectivity for different metal ions.
