A new instrument concept for tandem mass spectrometry is described. Th
e instrument consists of a high-performance magnetic sector (Kratos MS
-50) as MS-I and a reflection time-of-flight as MS-II. The instrument
concept is compatible with pulsed and continuous ionization sources. T
his paper describes the basic instrument concept and presents prelimin
ary data for tandem mass spectrometry experiments. This paper emphasiz
es the use of neutral-ion correlation measurements for obtaining metas
table ion and collision-induced dissociation spectra by using a contin
uous ion source.
