Abstract
A study of 33 species of Pelargonium sect. Ligularia reveals four basi c chromosome numbers, x = 8, 9, 10, and 11, and variation in chromosom e size. From evidence of karyology and hybridization attempts, proposa ls are made to divide the section into smaller groups and to transfer some species to other sections.
