POSSIBLE MECHANISM OF DEVELOPMENT OF THE PRIPYAT PALEORIFT IN THE LIGHT OF TECTONOPHYSICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE CONDITIONS OF DEVELOPMENT OF DEEP LISTRIC FAULTS

Based on a tectonophysical interpretation of the conditions of develop
ment of sublatitudinal deep faults of the Pripyat paleorift, a model i
s proposed for a possible mechanism of development. It is noted that t
his model is consistent with the most common views concerning crustal
deformation during continental rifting. A conclusion is drawn concerni
ng the possibility of application of the proposed model to investigati
on of other rift structures, and also the prospects of constructing si
milar modes of crustal deformation during an investigation of seismici
ty and other geological processes associated with rock deformations.
