Abstract
A soil-strain gage for measuring compaction of soil subjected to a veh icle load is described. The transducer uses a rectilinear potentiomete r to measure soil strain. Soil deformation can be measured at several locations in the soil profile to quantify compaction caused by a wheel or track. Both dynamic soil movement and final soil strain can be rec orded, and elastic and plastic components of strain determined.
