C. Devillard, GENETIC-TRANSFORMATION OF ASPEN (POPULUS-TREMULAXPOPULUS-ALBA) BY AGROBACTERIUM-RHIZOGENES AND REGENERATION OF PLANTS TOLERANT TO HERBICIDE, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie 3, Sciences de la vie, 314(6), 1992, pp. 291-298
An oncogenic strain of Agrobacterium rhizogenes, containing the bar ge
ne which confers resistance to the herbicide Basta, was used for trans
formation of an aspen hybrid (Populus tremula x Populus alba). From 28
to 54% of inoculated stem sections formed roots after inoculation by
the bacteria according to methods of inoculation. Plants were regenera
ted from transformed roots. Successful genetic transformation was conf
irmed by enzyme assays and Southern blot analysis. Transgenic plants t
ransferred to soil and sprayed in the greenhouse showed tolerance towa
rds Basta.
