An improved technique of electron spin echo envelope modulation (ESEEM
) spectroscopy using soft pulses is proposed. It is functionally relat
ed to the standard three-pulse stimulated echo experiment, but has an
improved bandwidth. The general class of soft-ESEEM experiments is ana
lyzed theoretically by using a product operator formalism. The predict
ed features are verified experimentally, in particular, the lack of bl
ind spots and the observation of high modulation frequencies.
