Ga. Mcfarlane et Rj. Beamish, CLIMATIC INFLUENCE LINKING COPEPOD PRODUCTION WITH STRONG YEAR-CLASSES IN SABLEFISH, ANOPLOPOMA-FIMBRIA, Canadian journal of fisheries and aquatic sciences, 49(4), 1992, pp. 743-753
Stomach contents from first-feeding larval sablefish (Anoplopoma fimbr
ia) comprised mainly calanoid copepods. Along the west coast of Vancou
ver Island, these copepods were the dominant zooplankton at the depth
that sablefish larvae developed. We propose that strong year-classes i
n sablefish populations occur when there is exceptional production of
copepods. The periods of exceptional copepod production appear to be c
orrelated with climate and ocean conditions.
