Abstract
Soleus (red) and extensor digitorum longus (white) muscles from Spragu e Dawley rats were incubated with 6-C-14-labelled glucose in normal an d in hyperosmotic media. Hyperosmolarity decreased 6-C-14-glucose inco rporation into muscle glycogen in a dose dependent manner and increase d glycolysis and glucose oxidation. Increased glycogenolysis rather th an decreased glycogenesis was responsible for the reduction in labelle d glycogen accumulation.
