This paper deals with energy modelling of a food industry, for which a
cogeneration system is proposed in order to obtain electric energy to
gether with steam and hot water for process heat. After a description
of the firm and of its energy demand, the gas turbine and the related
heat exchangers are introduced and modelled. The energy-balance equati
ons are numerically solved via the TRNSYS code, properly modified to a
ccount for the new components and the new situation. The investigation
is carried out over a period of 1 yr and shows how self-cogeneration
in industry allows one to obtain relevant energy savings and financial
gains.
