Abstract
Penicillin and ampicillin are of primary value in treating infections caused by aerobic gram-positive organisms such as group B streptococci and enterococci. The extended spectrum cephalosporins and penicillins provide excellent coverage against the broad range of pelvic pathogen s. Clindamycin and metronidazole target anaerobic organisms, whereas a minoglycosides and aztreonam are specific for aerobic gram-negative ba cilli. Erythromycin and azithromycin are useful for treating obstetric patients with infections caused by mycoplasmas and Chlamydia trachoma tis.
