Abstract
A brief review of the previously described species of staphylinid myrm ecophiles associated with the army ant genus Aenictus and what is know n of their behavior is presented, The following 8 new genera are descr ibed; their generitypes are presented in parentheses: Weissflogia (W. rhopalogaster); Dentazyras (D. hirsutus); Stenopleurus (S. aenictophil us); Dentaphila (D. malaysiensis); Tobusima (T. rosciszewskii); Tricho tobia (T. gracilis); Aleonitus (A. magnificus) and Formicaenictus (F. weissflogi). The genus Lornechusula is redescribed and the genus Canto nnetia is synonymized to it. The genus Lornechusula is compared with L omechusa and the adaptations are shown to be convergent. A new subtrib e of the tribe Lomechusini, Aenictobiina is described. Its type genus is Aenictobia. Nineteen new species are described from Malaysia. They are: Weissflogia rhopalogaster, Aenictocleptis weissflogi A, maschwitz i A. gracilis, A rosciszewskii, Dentazyras hirsutus, Stenopleurus aeni ctophilus, Drusilla attenuata, Orphnebius rosciszewskii Trachydonia ae nictophila, Aenictobia fergusoni Dentaphila malaysiensis, Tobusima ros ciszewskii Trichotobia gracilis, Aenictoxenus giganteus, A. malaysiens is, A. rosciszewskii, A. weissflogi and Formicaenictus weissflogi. One new species is described from Indonesia: Aleonictus magnificus (North ern Sumatra), Aenictobia thoi is reported from Northern Sumatra for th e first time. F. weissflogi is also known from Northern Sumatra. A. ma schwitzi was captured in Sabah. Keys are provided for the identificati on of the aleocharine tribes found with Aenictus, for the identificati on of the species of Aenictocleptis, for the genera of the Aenictobiin a, for the species of Aenictobia, and for the species of Aenictoxenus, A revised cladogram of the Aenictoteratini and a new cladogram of the Aenictobiina are provided.
