A model is proposed for a noncontact reaction layer. It is capable of
approximating the real spatial dependence of non-adiabatic electron tr
ansfer in the Marcus inverted zone. The model allows a rigorous analyt
ical calculation of the rate constant of the transfer, accelerated by
the mutual diffusion of the partners. The calculated effective transfe
r radius and its variation with the diffusion coefficient agree with t
he experimental data and also with a reasonable estimate of the exchan
ge interaction and free energy of reaction in solvents of medium polar
ity.
