Lg. Feun et al., SPINAL-CORD COMPRESSION PRODUCED BY OSTEOMYELITIS MIMICKING SPINAL EPIDURAL METASTASIS, American journal of clinical oncology, 15(2), 1992, pp. 174-179
Spinal cord compression is a common neurological emergency. The causes
of spinal cord compression may include primary or (more frequently) m
etastatic tumor, infections, trauma, and vertebral or intervertebral d
isc disease. In most instances the underlying etiology is known or eas
ily ascertained. We present here three recent cases in which patients
presented with spinal cord compression and lytic bone lesions suggesti
ng metastatic cancer. In these cases, vertebral osteomyelitis was foun
d to be the cause.
