M. Dan et al., PENETRATION OF CIPROFLOXACIN INTO HUMAN PERITONEAL TISSUE FOLLOWING ASINGLE ORAL DOSE OF 750 MILLIGRAMS, Journal of chemotherapy, 4(1), 1992, pp. 27-29
The penetration of ciprofloxacin into the peritoneal tissue was studie
d in 10 patients after a single oral dose of 750 mg given 5.6 hours (m
ean) before elective laparotomy. The mean tissue level was 0.29-mu-g/m
l (range, 0.082 to 0.96-mu-g/ml) while the mean concomitant serum leve
l was 1.3-mu-g/g (range, 0.52 to 2.57-mu-g/g). The achieved concentrat
ions are above the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of ciprofl
oxacin for most gram-negative bacteria commonly involved in intra-abdo
minal infections.
