Consistent theoretical expressions of the depolarization ratio rho(n)
and of the relative depolarized intensity i(r) in Rayleigh light scatt
ering yield a simple suitable relation between the isothermal compress
ibility beta(T) and those quantities. Beta(T) values thus calculated i
n thirty five pure liquids are compared to experimental values and to
values calculated with the classical relation. The values deduced from
the new relation are in better accordance with the experimental resul
ts and the deviations are more randomly distributed. A suitable expres
sion of the static Kerr constant B is also deduced from the same theor
etical basis and applied to sixteen pure polar liquids. A good accorda
nce between theory and experiment is observed when no strong specific
interactions occur.
