Abstract
Pancreatic abscess caused by Candida albicans is very rare. To date, o nly eight case reports describing a pancreatic abscess caused wholly o r in part by Candida species have appeared in the literature. We recen tly treated two patients with candidal pancreatic abscesses. In our ca ses as well as those reported in the literature, treatment of the absc ess with antifungal agents was delayed because of failure to recognize Candida albicans as a pathogen. Effective treatment appears to consis t of drainage of the abscess and administration of amphotericin B.
