Es. Bochkareva et al., POSITIVE COOPERATIVITY IN THE FUNCTIONING OF MOLECULAR CHAPERONE GROEL, The Journal of biological chemistry, 267(10), 1992, pp. 6796-6800
In the presence of its partner, GroES, the tetradecameric molecular ch
aperone GroEL binds 14 ATP molecules, half of which are hydrolyzed in
a cooperative manner. Moreover GroEL can bind, with a positive coopera
tivity, more than two molecules of nonfolded protein rhodanese. The ro
le of the cooperative mechanism in the functioning of GroEL is discuss
