Op. Tsameryan et al., APPLICATION OF PHENOCRYSTS MINERALOGY DATA TO SMALL CAUCASUS OPHIOLITE VOLCANIC SERIES TYPIFICATION, Geohimia, (11), 1991, pp. 1561-1572
Mineralogical aspects of Small Caucasus ophiolite volcanic series typi
fication is considered. Much attention is given to clinopyroxene which
presents in all the rocks studied. More than 100 microprobe analyses
of clinopyroxenes from Caucasus's rocks have been used as well as more
than 100 microprobe analyses of clinopyroxenes from Cyprus's ophiolit
e volcanites, Island's modern volcanites, 15-20 anomaly, Vim break, an
d Amper submarine mountain (all the localities are in the Atlantic Oce
an) taken for comparison. The data are given on orthopyroxenes, spinel
lides, and plagioclases which were founded in some of rocks studied as
both an individual mineral phases and inclusions in minerals. Modifie
d triangle diagram has been proposed for identification of clinopyroxe
nes from rocks different in geotectonic formation conditions: SiO2/100
- TiO2 - Na2O. The data on Ti, Na, and Si distribution between clinop
yroxene and enclosed melt are given for the first time.
