G. Brademann et al., CEMENTO-OSSIFYING FIBROMA OF THE PETROMASTOID REGION - CASE-REPORT AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE, Journal of Laryngology and Otology, 111(2), 1997, pp. 152-155
The cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) is a mesodermal, non-odontogenic t
umour of ectopic multipotential periodontal membrane blast cells. It i
s aggressive, locally destructive, and has a high recurrence rate. A c
ase report of COF of the petromastoid region is presented. This locati
on has not been described until now. Trauma may act as a trigger to su
dden growth of the atopic periodontal tissue. Due to the aggressive be
haviour of this tumour and its frequent recurrence radical surgery is
needed.
