M. Kobune et al., ECTOPIC CHOROIDAL CALCIFICATION OF THE EYES OF A PATIENT WITH PARATHYROID ADENOMA, Japanese journal of medicine, 32(1), 1993, pp. 57-59
A 39-year-old man was admitted to our hospital complaining of general
malaise, polyuria, disturbance of ocular movement and right cervical t
umor. Blood examination revealed increased parathyroid hormone, hyperc
alcemia and hypophosphatemia, suggestive of hyperparathyroidism. Histo
logy of the resected tumor revealed a benign parathyroid adenoma. Ecto
pic calcifications in the choroid and sclera were noted by computed to
mography and further ophthalmological examination. Although ocular cal
cification in conjunctiva and cornea associated with hyperthyroidism i
s not unusual, sclerochoroidal calcification has not been reported pre
viously in Japan. The possible cause of this unusual condition in this
patient is discussed.
