Abstract
The products formed from the reaction of aromatic aldehydes and ammoni um acetate with pentane-2,4-dione are 2,4-diaryl-6-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetr ahydropyrimidines; when 1-phenyl-2-phenylsulfonylethan-1-one is used i nstead of pentane-2,4-dione, hyleneamino-1-phenyl-2-phenylsulfonylprop an-1-ones are formed. There is no evidence of oxazine formation.
