The experimental investigation of rotational depolarization carried ou
t for prolate molecules with short lifetimes (0.1-1.0 ns) and in low-v
iscosity solutions (0.1-1.0 cP) explores the region where lifetimes be
come comparable with time scales of the slowly varying tails of the ra
ndom torque autocorrelation functions. Therefore, the simple model bas
ed on the ''white noise'' random torque must be revised. The new pheno
menological model of rotational depolarization is proposed and illustr
ated by experimental data.
