Transport parameters characterizing a commercial hemodialysis membrane
(AN69, Hospal), with and without pretreatment with an adsorbed albumi
n layer, were determined as a function of the external sodium chloride
equilibrium concentration. Measurements included membrane potential,
streaming potential, and electroosmosis data. Transference numbers of
cations and water were directly calculated from these data and were ch
aracteristic of high permselectivity at low ionic strength. Model-depe
ndent parameters of the charged membrane, such as zeta potential and f
ixed charge density, were also calculated.
