Abstract
The influence of white birch in black spruce/balsam fir chip mixtures was investigated using thermomechanical and chemi-thermomechanical pro cesses. It was observed that a partial replacement of up to 20 to 30% by birch in the softwood mixtures. combined with a suitable chemical t reatment could reduce the specific refining energy and improve the pul p quality.
