P. Pellatfinet et I. Armandguerineau, AN OPTOELECTRONIC ADDER BASED ON MODIFIED SIGNED DIGIT REPRESENTATIONOF NUMBERS, Optics communications, 98(4-6), 1993, pp. 250-256
An opto-electronic adder has been built: it implements a parallel addi
tion algorithm using the modified signed digit representation of numbe
rs. The designed architecture is based on an original elementary proce
ssor, which performs truth tables and makes the use of today's opto-el
ectronic components possible. Connection tasks are devoted to passive
optics and nonlinear ones to electronics. The adder works at 1 MHz clo
ck rate.
