Abstract
Electron-density fluctuations and LO-phonons in polar semiconductors f orm coupled modes(CM). The relaxation of hot carriers occur via these coupled modes. A derivation of the key formulae for the energy loss ra te of hot electrons relaxing via LO-phonon emission with coupled-mode formation is presented. Previous results[3] are recovered; and new mic roscopic formulae for the relaxation of coupled-mode-LO-phonons to aco ustic- phonons are also given. The extended formulae given here are ne eded to treat hot-phonon effects and agree well with available experim ental data.
